The story of this pyramid-shaped chocolate is fascinating. It was invented by Swiss chocolatier Theodore Tobler in 1908, hence the name “Toblerone”. Produced exclusively in Bern, it is now sold in more than 100 countries around the world, as well as in free zones. The first recipe was very original and managed to melt millions of gourmets: there was a special hot process, in which cocoa was mixed with a compound cooked from egg whites, sugar, glucose, almonds and honey.
But, in addition to its unique taste, it would be nice to take care of the message behind its logo. Along with the print, we can see a triangular shape that clearly embodies the mountain. In fact, this chocolate pays homage to the captivating Matterhorn, the national emblem of Switzerland, which proudly crowns its 4,478-meter peak. It is the fifth highest peak in the Alps which imposing itself majestically with its very own pyramid shape. Since the 1970s, this prestigious mountain has been adequately represented on the packaging of Toblerone chocolates.
But the Alpine summit is not the only feature that should challenge you. If you are a keen observer, looking closely you will notice a hidden figure. Still do not see it? Little hint: It is an animal and there is a historical reason for its appearance in the production of this popular chocolate.
Did you spot the animal hidden in the package?

Many people have never paid attention to it. If you are one of them, you will be very surprised by this revelation. Because, if you watch closely, in the heart of the logo, you can actually see a standing bear. Can you see it now? It blends subtly with the jagged hues of the snowy mountain.

But he, of course, is not there by chance. It also pays tribute to the history of Bern, the Swiss city where Theodor Tobler and his cousin Emil Baumann invented the chocolate bar. Bern is also nicknamed the “City of Bears”: this animal is so represented there that it even appears on the official coat of arms.
