Why doesn’t the washing machine keep running all night?

A washing machine, like a dryer or dishwasher, is equipped with electrical wires and cables that can get hot during operation. These devices consume a lot of energy and are therefore never safe from a possible short circuit. In general, when leaving the house, be sure to check if any electrical appliances are turned on, due to the risk of fire and/or gas. However, during the night, even though you are at home, if you leave the washing machine running, you will not have the opportunity to check whether everything is working properly. The risk of overheating cannot be excluded. Admittedly, it is very rare for a washing machine to catch fire, but prevention is better than cure. It is therefore recommended to wash your clothes during the day or at least when you are around, paying attention to the slightest suspicious accident.

On the other hand, how often it is recommended to remove the laundry once it has been washed, and leave your clothes lying in the drum for hours after the cycle, you are very likely to find them the next day in tatters. In fact, excess moisture causes a number of inconveniences: the appearance of unpleasant odors, the formation of mold and the development of bacteria. Suffice it to say that your device not only risks being clogged with detergent residue and dirt, but in addition, your laundry will not smell like roses. Especially if you are in a hurry in the morning and forget to take it out of the machine when you wake up. So you will have to wash your clothes again. Which would be a huge waste of time, but also a waste of electricity!

Plus, even if it’s not legal for you to use your washing machine at night, if you live in a building with thin walls, you’re likely to annoy your neighbors. Many people complain about the inconvenience caused by turning on household appliances in the middle of the night. So, if your washing machine is very old and making noise, it would be better not to disturb the peace of the neighborhood.

Washing machine: mistakes to avoid

Easy to use and constantly in demand, washing machine has become an integral part of our daily household chores. Although its operation has become a mechanical reaction, its handling is still rough. Voluntarily or not, we often make some mistakes that can damage the device as much as our clothes.

Here are some things to avoid completely:

  • Too much detergent

Stop with this received idea: It’s not just by putting in more detergent that your clothes will get cleaner! Moreover, on mid-range and low-end models, it can cause some damage. Because by generating too much suds, it can cause stains in your laundry. So you will have to go back to the starting point. Fortunately, newer washing machines have a suds sensor and auto rinse, but yours may not! Therefore, we recommend the use of liquid detergents. It is less aggressive than powder and its effectiveness is similar or even better, because it dissolves better at lower temperatures.

  • Overload the disc

We understand you want to save energy. Most people prefer to fill the drum completely to avoid multiple washings. However, sometimes it is a miscalculation. Because the more overload the machine is, the more soap and water won’t mix well enough to properly clean your clothes. Therefore, the washing will not be effective and then you will have to do another cycle. So it’s not the best way to save time or energy!

  • Not checking pockets before washing cycle

Often, in a hurry, you fail to carefully examine your trouser pockets. However, all it takes is a few coins, a pin, or a key to create problems inside the device. These things can loosen during washing, cause cracks in the walls, clog the washer filter or damage the drum. Therefore, always take a few minutes to make sure all pockets are empty.

  • Frequent cold wash

Of course, cold washing is sometimes necessary. But not always either. Remember that cold water is not as effective as high temperature: your clothes may be poorly washed and imbued with unpleasant odors. So it is always best to read the clothing label carefully and follow the manufacturer’s recommendations.
