Precautions to take if you receive unwanted text messages
There are also a number of methods you can use to stop SMS ads and scams.
-
If you have any doubts that this is a spam text message, do not send a reply
Responding to advertising or other SMS lets spammers know that your phone number is working. What will happen next is that it can sell your details to other spammers who may in turn flood you with bogus promises of free gifts and product offers. So it is better to block and report the number.
-
Never click on a link in unwanted text
Clicking on a link in an unsolicited text message can install malware on your phone or direct you to fraudulent websites that look real but are specifically designed to steal your personal information. If you get hacked, you may notice that your phone’s battery life and performance are significantly reduced. However, if you accidentally click on a link, be sure to close the window immediately. If you find that files were downloaded without your knowledge, delete them and do not open them.
