You should definitely avoid some natural products that can erode or tarnish them. We are mainly talking about vinegar. Although it is particularly effective for household cleaning, it is never recommended for use on marble countertops or floors. This natural compound has anti-scale and cleaning properties, and is ideal for making fabric softener or detergent, for both washing machine and dishwasher. But it is very likely that you will damage your marble, such as bleach or other products that contain anti-scale materials.
Therefore it is necessary to act as carefully as possible to avoid marks on marble floors. Here’s a cleanser to prepare yourself:
- 1 tablespoon of Marseille soap (liquid version)
- 3 tablespoons of baking soda
- 3 liters of water
Dissolve all ingredients in a bucket of water. Marseille soap is degreasing yet very gentle, thus thoroughly removing grease and dirt. Do not forget to dry the clean surface well.
You can polish marble in different ways, until there are no streaks left.
A very simple method is to dissolve 3 tablespoons of baking soda in 3 liters of water and use a microfiber cloth. Try this grandmother’s trick again with an old cardigan that will help you clean the soiled area better.
You can also buy very fine pumice powder at craft stores. Just dissolve 2 tablespoons in 2 liters of water and apply gently. You can then rinse it off with a water solution combined with a few drops of liquid soap. Beware, rinse with lukewarm water only.
Ceramic or Porcelain Floor Tiles
Ceramic and porcelain flooring, compact and resistant, is very popular. In this case, it is preferable not to use oily detergents to avoid the appearance of marks. If you want to polish the floor, you can prepare a mixture of hot water with ½ cup of white vinegar. The latter will be very useful, as it has many degreasing and polishing properties. As a bonus, it’s an excellent air freshener! This will allow you to remove any marks or traces of grease. If you wish, you can also add a few drops of your favorite essential oil, to fill the space with a fragrant scent!
For daily cleaning you will need:
- 1 tablespoon of Marseille soap in shavings or liquid
- 3 liters of water
- 4 tablespoons vinegar
If the floor is very shiny and may be slippery, increase the amount of alcohol slightly and replace the vinegar with 2 tablespoons of baking soda.
